Rent-a-pooch

I imagine Heaven as a giant grassy knoll with tons of people playing with puppies. Today, as I took my daily mosey over to Esslinger to partake in one hour of attempting to speak spanish, I believe I found Heaven. Instead of seeing shirtless guys playing frisbee on the grass in front of the Knight Library I saw students playing with Puppies! The Oregon Voice presented Rent-a-Pooch. It went from 11:00a.m. to 3:30p.m. and took place in front of the Knight Library. The animals came from Greenhill Humane Society.
I can’t stop thinking about how genious this PR tactic is. I know so many college students, myself included, who a yearning to go get a puppy, but I know that I don’t have the responsability to actually own one. I also know that Greenhill is always looking for volunteers to play with the animals they keep. So what better way to combine the two groups - college students and Greenhill - than this event?! It’s a win-win situation; us college students get to fulfill our need for puppy-time, while Greenhill gets to freely advertise themselves and get their animals into a new situation with new people to play with.
I guess the bottome line is: I love puppies.

This was a great tactic by Greenhill, however, I was heartbroken when I took notice of this event. Sadly, I actually shed a few tears while walking to class because I miss my own dog.
I want to say, whole-heartedly, that this was a great public relations tactic but I can’t. Most college students live in apartments and houses that do not allow dogs. The audience benefits from this event by interacting with a cute dog but did any of the animals get adopted?
It would be interesting to find out how they rated their success.

Stacey, just about every time I go to our school I see people walking or jogging with their dogs. I was so glad to learn of this event from your blog. I would enjoy visiting Greenhill to play with the dogs.
